AFO Course Information

The AFO Course is a 2-day training program designed to meet the needs of those working in the public and semi-public recreational pool or water park facilities. The AFO Course provides in-depth instruction in all facets of aquatic facility operation and management, including: filtration, disinfection, water testing and treatment, design considerations, facility management, risk management, facility trouble shooting, and hot tub and spa operation. The intent of the program is to create better operators, who in turn make safer, more appealing environments, and increasingly efficient programs for aquatic venues.

THE AFO MANUAL: The 7^th Edition of the Aquatic Facility Operator’s Manual (2017) will be used for the course and examination. The text will be sent in advance of the course/exam.

THE EXAMINATION & CERTIFICATION: Candidates will have 3 hours to complete the 50 question open book exam. Calculators may be used during the examination and exams will be graded on site. Upon successful completion of the AFO Course and exam, participants will be certified for 5 years by the National Certification Board in coordination with the National Recreation and Park Association.
